The Man Who Has Everything Buys Even More

Despite a global economic meltdown, conspicuous consumption is alive and well - and living in London.

Having already purchased two tickets to space, City banker Per Wimmer has apparently put down £50,000 for a trip aboard XCOR’s Lynx suborbital vehicle in 2010.

The Mojave, Calif.-based company is set to unveil Wimmer as its first customer during a press conference in Beverly Hills on Tuesday morning. However, it looks like news leaked out to The Daily Mail, which published a story on Monday.

XCOR is planning to fly its Lynx vehicle with passengers in 2010.  The pilot and passenger aboard the two-person vehicle will experience several minutes of weightlessness.

The 40-year-old millionaut, who runs the self-named Wimmer Financial, has apparently purchased two tickets to space already with Virgin Galactic and Space Adventures, the newspaper reports.

Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo is set to take off in 2010. It’s not clear whether Wimmer is planning to fly on one of Space Adventures’ orbital flights or on a planned suborbital vehicle the company is building.
